Beginner Serger Class

Instructor:  Karen Kester

Bond with your Serger!  Learn to thread your Serger, adjust tensions, turn corners & curves & do a rolled hem.  This beginner class is open to owners of all brands of Sergers.

Doodlebird Hand Embroidery Class

 

Instructor:  Deborah Olsen

Fee:  $25.00

  “Mama!”  A happy Baby Bird greets Mama Bird in this project inspired by the Doodle Stitching books by Aimee Ray.  A stitched Mother’s Day gift perhaps?  Deborah Olsen will instruct you in marking your pattern, and getting started with split, straight and satin stitches, and couching.

Beaded Trapunto Wall Hanging Class

Learn how to create this one of a kind, stunning quilt using trap unto and beading.  Make either one block or an entire quilt.  Sherry will lead you through the process and will provide the quilt pattern and beading instructions.

Mystery Quilt

The Mystery Class is going to be a fast-paced, fun class with simple but clever piecing. A great class to showcase a new fabric collection, it is dazzling in batiks or high contrast fabrics. It is so fast to put together, it's ideal for hospice or charity quilts, as well. You will use the pattern over and over again! Confident beginner through expert. Accurate cutting and sewing a 1/4" seam a must.

Quilting Without Patterns

This is our newest class for the beginner sewers. Each month we will have a hands on project that will boost your sewing skills.  Our first project is a lined tote bag that is great for your own use or makes a perfect gift. Some sewing experience & knowledge of your sewing machine is required.

A Stitch In Time” Sampler   Hand Embroidery 

 

Instructor:  Debra Olsen

Created by Deborah Olsen, this project is designed to create a classic sewing motto for your work room, while getting you familiar with a range of basic embroidery stitches.  Using one hoop, we’ll practice and create a “stitch key” that you can refer to while working your motto in the other hoop. Stitches to be covered are: stem, straight and split stitches; chainstitch and couching, blanket/buttonhole stitch, and french or chinese knots.

Beyond The Basics

Here’s a class for those of you who have taken the beginning Free Motion Quilting class or already have basic free motion skills and want to learn more designs and enhance your free motion quilting skills. Peggy will introduce you many different quilting patterns. She will show you how to quilt blocks, background designs and border designs.  During class you will begin quilting a small table topper or wall hanging which will become a library of quilt designs for your future reference. So, come and try some of these designs, improve your free motion quilting abilities and have fun in a relaxing learning environment.

Star Fragments from “Flying Colors”

This bright and spirited little wall hanging is foundation-pieced with freezer paper, and will demonstrate the “no sewing on the paper” method. For intermediate to advanced quilters, experienced paper-piecers may elect to use the traditional method. With only four blocks, this goes together fast!

Seriously Crazy;  ABCs of Crazy Quilting and Historic Trunk Show.

Crazy Quilts were a Victorian fad of epic proportions, but there are deep historic roots, and modern offspring.  Come spend the day with Deborah Olsen, and get a taste of the aspects and styles of Crazy Quilting. She will present historic details, and share her trunk show of samples of the good, the bad, and the 1960’s in Crazy Quilting. You will get started with block basics, and a selection of stitches that will let you build a simple or elaborate block.  From this you can make a block that could be a pillow or small wall handing, and get the whole insane idea out of your system… or it could be the start of something grand!!! Only you will know…

Here’s your chance to learn how to sew.  The first class you will become familiar with your sewing machine.  The second class you will sew a pillowcase and the third class you will stitch a lined zippered cosmetic case.

The Abby Bag

"One is never enough" ! A pin cushion and scrap/thread snip bag all sewed up in one of the cutest flowers ever.  Not only is it adorable but functional as well. A great project to use your scraps or favorite collection of fabrics.  You'll definitely want to make more than one as it comes in handy at your cutting table as well as next to your sewing machine .  it also makes a great gift !

Quilting with Ethnic Fabrics

 

Instructor:  Charlie Petersen

This fun class will concentrate on piecing simple quilts to take advantage of “ethnic” fabrics, including fabrics you’ve made. (From dyeing, stamping, burning, etc.) In class we’ll be able to make a small wall hanging from as little as 1/4 yard of ethnic fabric plus a few “go-withs” and some neutrals. Confident beginners to advanced, students should be able to sew an accurate 1/4” seam and rotary cut accurately. One book for further reading, but not required is “Caliente Quilts” by Priscilla Bianchi.

Reversible Table Runner

Reversible Table Runner. This fast little piece is called Salted Peanuts, from Karen Pedersen’s book “More Reversible Quilting”, because you just want to make more of them! They are great for seasonal runners, with Christmas on one side and Thanksgiving or harvest on the other. We will be quilting as we construct, so you will end up with a finished piece. Confident beginners to advanced students.
